Director of Purchasing
The Director of Purchasing oversees purchasing, inventory, and material needs for the Fire District in this annually appointed role.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages all RFPs (e.g., sealcoating, heating oil, propane).
- Procures and delivers sundries (e.g., water, soap) to four stations.
- Coordinates annual inspections/maintenance (e.g., generators, fire systems, apparatus) with District Chief and BoFC.
- Arranges station maintenance (e.g., alarms, IT) with Maintenance Employee (reports to BoFC).
- Tracks procurement budgets, reporting variances to BoFC and Treasurer.
- Conducts inventory, testing, and repairs of equipment (e.g., radios, PPE) via authorized software.
- Oversees EMS supply system and firefighter fit testing, with training as needed.
- Manages IT and supports I AM Responding system, with training as needed.
- Acts as primary liaison with vendors and contractors.
Qualifications
- Proficient in MS Office, QuickBooks, or similar.
- Knows NYS Fire District laws.
- Associate’s degree or 3+ years in procurement.
Requirements
- Bondable, NYS driver’s license, DMV/LENS enrolled, district resident (or willing non-resident).
Physical
Lifts up to 50 lbs (e.g., station supplies), navigates stairs.
Conditions
Includes evenings, weekends, and travel.
